Cultivating Undergraduates' Curiosity, Creativity, and Discovery
The first plenary session explores possible answers to the foundational question: Where do we want to go? The RC20/20 project suggests a candidate answer to the “vision question:” focusing on student experiences that cultivate curiosity, creativity, and discovery. It is an educational goal that combines attitudinal dimensions to how students approach a problem or question with the acquisition of content and competency knowledge (largely through techniques that promote robust learning), integrative learning (which appears to be particularly critical to creativity), and self-regulated learning (which is central to sustained inquiry and the generation of discovery). The presidents of AAC&U, APLU, and NASPA will discuss this vision from their perspectives as leaders of key higher education associations.
